PROFILE: Data Analyst – Junior level (LCA / Environmental Footprint)

WORK MODE: Near-site: 2 days/week on-site in Ispra (VA), Italy

CONTRACT: Time & Means, single specific contract (may be executed in phases)

EXPERIENCE: 2+ years relevant IT experience, incl. 2 years on LCA / EF data

EDUCATION: University degree – EQF Level 6 (Bachelor's) or higher

LANGUAGES: English B2 or higher (spoken and written)

MAX RATE: 280 € / day

BACKGROUND & MANDATE

DID S.r.l. is looking for a Junior Data Analyst with a background in Life Cycle Assessment for a near-site assignment with a European Institution in Ispra (VA), within the scientific unit working on sustainable supply chains and the bioeconomy. The consultant will collect, check, develop and maintain the data, databases and analytical workflows that support the qualitative and quantitative sustainability assessment of supply chains – from LCA datasets for key EU products and sectors to dashboards and communication products for science for policy. The environment is multicultural and multilingual, with strong emphasis on diligence, discretion and the handling of confidential data.

MAIN TASKS

• LCA datasets & models: collect, clean, develop, check, document and maintain LCA datasets from literature, specialised databases and field data; build LCA models that enable LCA and EF analyses of key EU products and sectors
• - EPLCA & LCDN: develop and maintain structured data for supply-chain sustainability assessments on the European Platform on LCA (EPLCA), contributing to the Life Cycle Data Network (LCDN)
• - Stakeholder data: work with industry, academia and SMEs to understand data needs and collect life cycle inventory information
• - Data quality: design and apply data quality and consistency checks and validation rules on heterogeneous sources
• - Analysis: exploratory and statistical analysis of LCA datasets to identify trends and patterns supporting policy decisions (e.g. assessment of policy targets)
• - Dashboards & communication: build and maintain dashboards and reporting tools; produce infographics, presentations and visual summaries for non-technical audiences and senior decision-makers
• - Documentation: document methodologies and analysis processes and recommend improvements based on data insights

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS (verified on the CV – EU CV template; candidates not meeting them are rejected without further evaluation)

• University degree corresponding to Level 6 of the European Qualifications Framework (Bachelor's or 3 years of higher education): required
• - Relevant IT professional experience: 2 years
• - Using, checking, developing and managing data and datasets for Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and EU Environmental Footprint (EF) in key EU sectors, incl. LCA data formats and software: 2 years, evidenced in CV
• - English, spoken and written (CEFR): B2 or higher

TECHNICAL PROFILE

• LCA / EF software: OpenLCA, SimaPro
• - LCA and EF datasets and databases (ecoinvent, EU Environmental Footprint, Sphera) and LCA data formats (ILCD or similar), ideally on biobased materials, chemicals and raw materials
• - life cycle impact assessment methods, interpretation of LCA results and plausibility checks
• - data visualisation and reporting tools for interactive dashboards (experience with AI tools is a plus); advanced Microsoft Excel
• - working with large datasets and databases; basic machine learning concepts (regression, clustering, classification)
• - LCA data quality practices; certifications on LCA data, databases or software are an asset

SOFT SKILLS

• data storytelling: turning analytical findings into clear, decision-oriented messages
• - at ease in multilingual meetings and with external stakeholders
• - able to work both in a team and autonomously; accurate, proactive and results-oriented

WORKING CONDITIONS

• on-site presence in Ispra 2 days per week; ad hoc presence may be requested with 2 hours' notice – living within commuting distance is essential
• - working days between 7:00 and 20:00, with guaranteed availability 9:30-12:00 and 15:00-16:30 (16:00 on Fridays)
• - no service on the Ispra site official holidays
• - monthly progress reports and a final report at contract end
• - no security clearance and no certifications required; signature of the Ethics reminder and Acceptable Use Policy

SELECTION PROCESS

1. CV in English (EU CV template) clearly showing at least 2 years of hands-on work on LCA / EF data, software and data formats, with detailed professional experience pages.
2. 2. Technical questionnaire: 6 questions on LCA skills (software, datasets & formats, LCI data quality, stakeholder data collection, interpretation of results, presentation of results – max 1,000 words each, minimum 7/10 each) and 2 use cases (policy target impact assessment; science communication products – max 1,500 words each, minimum 14/20 each). Overall minimum 70%. Answers must be written personally: the use of AI tools or any external assistance is strictly forbidden and leads to rejection.
3. 3. Possible remote live presentation (Teams / Webex, at least 3 working days' notice). Attendance is mandatory and no external help is allowed.
